4th of July desserts roundup

Over the years I’ve found that people don’t necessarily want the most elaborate 4th of July desserts. They want recipes that are easy to serve, travel well, and feel festive enough for a backyard barbecue, fireworks, or a day spent at the lake.

This roundup includes six of my favorite red, white, and blue desserts that are perfect for celebrating Independence Day. Whether you’re hosting a crowd or bringing dessert to a potluck, there’s something here for everyone.

Here are my top 4th of July desserts!

S’mores Bars

Nothing says summer quite like s’mores.

These gooey bars have all the flavors of a campfire classic without needing to build a fire. They’re rich, chocolatey, packed with marshmallows, and one of the easiest desserts to transport to a barbecue or picnic.

Ice Cream Cake Cups

These individual ice cream cake cups are one of my favorite make-ahead desserts.

Layers of vanilla cake, creamy vanilla ice cream, and fresh strawberries and blueberries make them festive, refreshing, and incredibly easy to serve. Since they’re individually portioned, guests can simply grab one and enjoy.

Classic Strawberry Shortcake

Some desserts never go out of style.

Fresh strawberries, homemade whipped cream, and tender shortcakes create the perfect balance of simple and beautiful. This classic dessert always feels right during berry season.

Ice Cream Cone Cake Pops

These might be one of the cutest desserts on the table.

Instead of traditional cake pops, these sit inside miniature ice cream cones to look just like tiny scoops of ice cream. They’re playful, kid-friendly, and always get people talking.

Mini Berry Sheet Cake Bites

Sometimes the easiest desserts are the first to disappear.

These bite-sized treats start with Trader Joe’s vanilla sheet cake, cut into little squares and topped with whipped frosting, fresh blueberries for an effortless patriotic dessert.

They’re perfect when you need something quick that still looks beautiful on a dessert tray.

Strawberry Shortcake Jars

Individual dessert jars make entertaining so much easier.

Layers of cake, fresh strawberries, and whipped cream create a portable version of the classic dessert that’s perfect for picnics, parties, and outdoor celebrations.

Plus, they’re easy to make ahead.

My Formula for the Perfect 4th of July Dessert Table

Whenever I’m putting together a dessert table, I like to include a variety of flavors and textures.

For this menu, I chose:

  • One chocolate dessert
  • One frozen dessert
  • One fresh fruit dessert
  • One nostalgic classic
  • One kid-friendly dessert
  • One grab-and-go dessert

That combination gives guests plenty of options while making the dessert table feel full and inviting.

The 4th of July might just be the ultimate excuse to throw a fun, laid-back summer party. I pulled together some simple red, white, and blue ideas to help you celebrate. No matter if you’re planning a backyard BBQ, a picnic at the park, or just want to add a few festive touches to your long weekend, I’ve got you covered.

Tips for Hosting a Stress-Free Fourth of July Party

One of my favorite hosting tips is to do as much as possible the day before.

  • Bake desserts ahead of time.
  • Wash and prep fresh berries.
  • Assemble serving platters.
  • Chill drinks overnight.
  • Label serving utensils.
  • Keep frozen desserts in the freezer until just before serving.

Doing a little prep work ahead of time means you’ll actually get to enjoy the party instead of spending it in the kitchen.
