Simple Picnic Ideas for Spring
The second the sun comes out for more than five minutes, I start wanting to be outside. Spring in the Pacific Northwest is kind of funny because one minute it’s sunny and the next it’s raining sideways… but on those good days? We’re grabbing a blanket and heading out the door.
Something I believe is picnics do not need to be complicated to be fun. They don’t need to look like a Pinterest photoshoot.
You don’t need fancy charcuterie boards or twelve homemade recipes.
Some sandwiches. A pasta salad. Something sweet. Cold drinks. A blanket.
That’s enough.
This is exactly what I pack for simple spring picnics. The easy foods, the little things I bring to make it feel cute, and the things I actually use over and over.
Because a picnic should feel easy.
Here is everything I would pack for a spring picnic.

What to Pack for a Spring Picnic
I like a mix of:
Simple.
Enough variety without overpacking.

Picnic Food Ideas
These are the kinds of foods that travel well and don’t need to stay piping hot.
Tunacado Sandwiches

This is one of my favorite easy picnic lunches.
Fresh bread, tuna salad, avocado… simple and filling.
Wrap them in parchment paper or slice them in half for easier serving.
Ranch Pasta Salad

Pasta salad just belongs at a picnic.
This one is easy to make ahead and somehow tastes better cold.
Pack it in a sealed container and bring serving spoons.
Fresh Fruit
Simple and easy.
I usually pack:
Anything easy to grab.
Bonus points if you use cute berry baskets.
Easy Picnic Snacks
This is where I keep it really easy.
Store-bought is fine.
Actually… I encourage it.
I usually pack things like:
No one has ever complained about chips at a picnic.

Picnic Dessert Ideas
This is my favorite part.
Strawberry Crumble Bars

Easy to pack and so good cold.
Lemon Smash Cookies

These feel bright and springy.
Sugar Cookie Bars

Easy to slice and travel.
Lemon Blueberry Pie Cookies

Cute little hand pies that feel picnic-perfect.
Drinks to Pack
Cold drinks make everything feel more fun.
I usually bring:
A cooler bag makes all the difference.
What I Use for a Spring Picnic
This is where you can make this post really shoppable.
Things I actually use:
Picnic Blanket
A washable picnic blanket is worth it.
Cooler Bag or Basket
Keeps everything cold and makes carrying easier.
Berry Baskets / Food Containers
For fruit, snacks, and desserts.
Paper Goods
I love pretty paper plates and napkins.
Cups / Drink Tumblers
Reusable or disposable.
Small Cutting Board or Tray
Makes it feel a little more styled.
Flowers or a Small Vase
Not necessary… but cute.
bluetooth speaker
To set the vibe!

How to Make a Picnic Feel Special
This part matters more than the food.
A few simple touches make it feel intentional.
Things I love adding:
It doesn’t need to be overdone.
Just thoughtful.

Best Places for a Spring Picnic
If you want to add more value:
Ideas:
Or even your front yard if the weather is nice.
No rules!
Tips for an Easy Picnic
A few things I’ve learned:
Pack foods that taste good cold
No stress.
Prep the night before
Way easier.
Bring wipes
Always.
Pack extra napkins
Always.
Use containers with lids
Wind happens.

A simple picnic can feel really special.
It doesn’t need to be expensive or overly planned.
Just a few good foods, a blanket, and maybe some sunshine.
And if there are lemon cookies involved…even better!
If you make this, let me know! I always love hearing from you.
