The Famous Beverly Hills Hotel Silver Dollar Pancakes (Now You Can Make Them at Home)
If you’ve followed me for a while, you know The Beverly Hills Hotel is one of my favorite places on earth. We go back every year, and no matter how many incredible restaurants we try in Los Angeles, there is one breakfast I look forward to more than anything.
The Fountain Coffee Room.
Tucked downstairs inside the iconic Pink Palace, this tiny 1950s-style counter has been serving Hollywood stars since 1949. There are only 19 stools, everyone sits shoulder to shoulder around the curved counter, and somehow it still feels like stepping back into Old Hollywood every single time.
But what makes it truly special isn’t just the history.
It’s the people.
If you’ve ever been, chances are you’ve met Ruth or Eucario. They’ve become as much a part of the experience as the pink walls upstairs. Ruth and Eucario have been welcoming guests for more than 30 years, remember regulars by name, and makes every single person feel like they’re exactly where they’re supposed to be. It’s one of those places where the service is every bit as memorable as the food.
Every time when we visit, Ruth and Eucario greet us like old friends, and breakfast always feels a little more special because of them.

The One Thing You Have to Order
The menu has plenty of classics, but there’s one order I recommend to everyone:
The Silver Dollar Pancakes.
They’re buttery, fluffy, lightly sweet, and somehow taste even better sitting at that curved counter with a cup of coffee.
Here’s my favorite little tip…
Order the half stack.
They’re rich enough that a half order is the perfect way to start breakfast before moving on to eggs or another entrée. I actually think it’s the best way to experience them because you get all the pancake magic without leaving too full for everything else. Every single trip, it’s our first order.
And after asking around and doing a little digging, I finally got my hands on what appears to be the restaurant’s actual pancake recipe. It was written for a commercial kitchen, so I scaled it down into a version that’s easy to make at home. I think it’s incredibly close.

Beverly Hills Hotel Silver Dollar Pancakes
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 cup water
- 2 large eggs
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, water, eggs, vanilla, and melted butter.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir just until combined. Don’t overmix. A few lumps are exactly what you want.
- Let the batter rest for 10 to 15 minutes while your griddle heats.
- Heat a lightly buttered griddle or skillet over medium heat (about 350°F if using an electric griddle).
- Scoop about 1/3 cup of batter for each pancake.
- Cook until bubbles form and the edges begin to set, about 2 to 3 minutes. Flip and cook another minute or two until golden.

Worth the Trip
People always ask me if The Beverly Hills Hotel is worth visiting even if you’re not staying there. My answer is always YES.
Walk through the gardens. Wander the lobby. Grab breakfast downstairs at The Fountain Coffee Room. Say hi to Ruth and Eucario if they’re working. Order the silver dollar pancakes. It’s one of those classic LA experiences that never goes out of style, and after all these years, it still feels just as magical as the first time
