Game Day Essentials For Baseball Moms
If you’ve ever spend an entire weekend in your folding chair with a blanket, and overheating in the sunshine by 2pm, then you’re probably a baseball mom. You know the drill: doubleheaders, forgotten belts, sunburns, snack schedules, and sunflower seeds everywhere. Being a sports mom means juggling a lot! Early mornings, endless snacks, folding chairs, and figuring out how to stay comfortable for hours on the bleachers.
After a few years of “learning as I go,” I’ve found all the necessities that helps me feel a little more prepared for those long days at the yard. Today I’m sharing all of my game day essentials! I’m including an easy protein ball recipe, a homemade electrolyte drink, and a list of supplies you’ll be glad to have on hand.
Here are my tried-and-true game day essentials:

seating
If you’re going to be sitting through doubleheaders or full-day tournaments, then a reliable folding chair is going to be your new best friend. I also love bringing a waterproof blanket because it’s perfect for wet grass, cold bleachers or to keep you dry on cold drizzly days.
sunscreen
Sunscreen is a non-negotiable in my book. You might think you’re just stepping out for a quick morning game, but before you know it you’ve been roasting under the sun for hours. I always keep a mineral powder in my bag for easy face touch-ups and a spray bottle for arms and legs. These are my favorites:
snacks and drinks
A small cooler bag packed with protein balls, fresh fruit, and sandwiches is a lifesaver. I swear by my Stanley cup too. It keeps my drinks hot or ice cold all day, which feels like a tiny luxury when you’re baking in the sun or freezing in the Washington rain. I also pack a snack container with separate compartments so I can have a little of everything without bringing a million baggies.
These protein balls are easy to prep at the beginning of the week so you can grab them and go straight to the game. They’re sweet, satisfying, and made with ingredients you likely have on hand. These are also great for hungry kids between games who need more than chips or candy.

Game Day Protein Balls
Pin Recipe Print RecipeIngredients
- 1 1/2 Cup No Stir Creamy Peanut Butter
- 1/2 Cup Honey
- 1 1/3 Cup Rolled Oats
- 1/2 Cup Vanilla Protein Powder
- 1/8 tsp Salt
- 1/2 Cup Mini Chocolate Chips
Instructions
- Add the peanut butter, honey, rolled oats, vanilla protein powder, salt, and mini chocolate chips to a mixing bowl and use a spatula to mix until the batter is combined.
- Use a mini cookie scoop to scoop mixture evenly and roll into about a 1" size ball. Add to a cookie sheet or tray.
- Place the cookie sheet with the protein balls in the fridge for 1 hour, or until the balls are hardened.
- Transfer energy balls to a ziploc bag and store in the fridge for around a week.
This homemade electrolyte drink is an essential too. It’s not only healthier and cheaper than most store bought sports drinks, it tastes better too.
Orange Electrolyte Drink
Pin Recipe Print RecipeIngredients
- 1 Cup Filtered Water
- 1 Cup Coconut Water
- 3/4 Cup Orange Juice (fresh juice, not a concentrate)
- 1/4 Cup Lemon Juice
- 1/8 tsp Celtic or Himalayan Pink Salt (avoid table salt)
- 1 Tbsp Honey
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a pitcher and stir until salt is dissolved and everything is well mixed.
clothing and accessories
Layers are crucial! I plan for a lightweight puffer in the morning, with a breathable tee underneath and comfy sneakers. Don’t forget sunglasses, gloves and a hat too!
entertainment (besides the game, of course!)
Sometimes the innings stretch on… and on. Bringing AirPods for your favorite podcasts, a book, or even a journal can help pass the time. These allow you to still be present without scrolling on your phone all day. Some moms like knitting or doing crosswords, whatever fills your cup while you cheer on your kids!
miscellaneous supplies
During baseball season, it’s so helpful to keep a spot in your trunk for the miscellaneous essentials that you might not always remember. Things like a small first aid kit comes in handy more often than you’d think and it’s so nice when you know it’s already packed in your car. A collapsible wagon is a lifesaver for hauling everything back to the car too. And of course, a large durable tote bag!
While the packing and preparing can be a lot to remember, there’s something special about weekends at the field. Sure, it can be super long days, but watching your kid light up when they get a big hit or make a great play makes it all worth it. The years go fast and these moments will stick with you (and them!) forever. Your kids may not appreciate it now, but they’ll look back and remember how you showed up for them.
