6 Ways To Spring Clean Your Mind And Space

Lately, I’ve been in full decluttering mode. Cleaning out the junk drawer that somehow ends up with the most random stuff, sorting clothes to donate that my kids have outgrown, tossing expired makeup that’s been sitting untouched in my drawer and putting away my winter clothes that I hope we won’t need anytime soon!

I’ve been freshening up my outdoor spaces too. Things like power washing the patio, scrubbing cushions, getting the planters replanted, refilling our propane tanks so the firepits are good to go when the sunshine shows up. I even added a few cute new pillows to our outdoor sofas to make the space feel new again.

It’s amazing how much better everything feels after a good reset. With the arrival of spring, it’s a great time to talk about decluttering not just your space, but also your mind.

Here are 6 things you can do to refresh your mental mindset this spring:

letting go of negative thoughts

It’s time to clear out the mental junk drawer too. I’ve been working on replacing unhelpful thoughts with more encouraging, kind ones. Sometimes all it takes is a shift in language or a quiet reminder to yourself. If you need some extra motivation, the book Let Them by Mel Robbins is a great read, and I love listening to uplifting podcasts like Joel Osteen when I’m on the go. It makes such a difference in my energy.  Here’s a list of my fav episodes, plus some silly entertaining podcasts if you need a laugh!

My favorite podcasts:

move your body, even just a little.

This doesn’t mean hitting the gym every day (unless you love that). To get movement in my day I always  go for a walk around the neighborhood.  If you can’t get out of the house, this could even mean chasing your kids around the yard, or even challenging yourself to get stronger with push-ups.
Movement = mood booster, always.

eat to feel good

Spring always inspires me to eat a little cleaner and pay closer attention to what’s fueling me. Food really does impact how your brain and body function more than you may realize. I’ve said it before, and honestly it’s something I live by now, these days, I can pretty much tell how a food is going to make me feel before I even eat it. And sometimes, when I’m really craving something unhealthy, I have to pause and remind myself of that.
Lately, I’ve been leaning into more fresh foods and making sure I’m staying consistent with vitamins and drinking my greens daily. Even little swaps to your plate can help your energy and mood stay up!

write it down

If you’re anything like me, you feel 10x more relaxed when things are written down. I have endless email drafts of to do lists, ideas and projects. I love mapping things out because it helps me stay grounded and I don’t feel like I’m carrying every thought around in my brain. Prioritize making the mental space for yourself by just writing things down (or type it into an email draft or note into your phone.  Trust me, it really helps.

take a digital detox

This one’s hard, but so worth it. I’ve been trying to spend less time mindlessly scrolling and more time being present with my family. I’ve even been shutting down the computer earlier in the evenings or leaving my phone in another room for a bit and picking up my book again. It’s wild how much more alive everything feels when you’re not watching it all through a screen.

Dan and I always get asked for book recommendations, so I’ve put together a list of our favorites.

rework your schedule

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, maybe it’s time to look at what you can take off your plate. Even if it’s just temporarily! On the flip side, if your routine feels a little meh, maybe it’s time to add something fun. Like a coffee date, a weekend trip, or even blocking out time to rest can give you something to look forward to.

I hope this inspires you to do a little spring reset in whatever way you need. Whether it’s organizing your pantry, adding a fresh bouquet to your kitchen, or just sitting quietly with your coffee before the day starts.

Sometimes the smallest shifts make the biggest impact.
