Brown Butter Lucky Charms Cereal Treats

Cereal treats are a longtime favorite in our house.  We like to use Rice Krispies, Cocoa Krispies, Fruity Pebbles and Lucky Charms to make delicious cereal treats.  I love taking a simple recipe and adding a few steps to elevate the flavor.  One way I like to give my treats a bit more flavor is by browning the butter.   Below you can see how easy it is to make these Brown Butter Lucky Charms Cereal Treats with just a few ingredients and minimal time!

Ingredients:

1/2 cup salted butter

1 tsp vanilla

7 cups Lucky Charms cereal

1 bag mini marshmallows

Supplies:

8×8 baking pan

parchment

mixing bowls

saucepan

spatula

  1.  Brown the butter! Melt butter in a large saucepan over medium heat. As it begins melting, continue stirring until it becomes bubbly and foamy!

2.  Butter changes color from pale yellow to a deeper tan color the longer it cooks.  You’ll also begin to smell a nutty aroma.  Once it’s darkened, turn heat off.

3.  Add in marshmallows and vanilla and stir until melted.

4.  Add Lucky Charms cereal to melted marshmallow mixture.  Stir until combined.

5.  Pour cereal mixture into an 8×8 greased or parchment lined baking pan.  Using a silicone spatula, pat mixture down into pan, making sure to fill in the corners and edges of the pan.  Tip: I like to wet my spatula with water to keep the cereal treats from sticking to my spatula as I press them down into the pan.

6.  Allow treats to set up for about an hour.  Once firm, pull parchment from pan and cut into desired size squares.  For ultimate freshness, store in an airtight container at room temperature.

  1. We made these yesterday after watching your live baking video and they were delicious! The kids were so excited for a St Patty’s day treat! Nice call on the brown butter too, so yummy!

  2. These turned out delish! I’ve never made cereal treats with browned butter before. Would you use this same recipe for any kind of cereal treat?
