How to Create a Spring Tablescape

As a Pacific Northwest girl, you can only imagine how excited we are that spring has arrived. It still means gray days and plenty of rain, but we can fake it inside with pretty flowers and spring tablescapes!

I always begin party plans with a color palette in mind. This can come from an invite, a piece of party decor, a palette of colors, or most often, a swatch of fabric. One of my favorite ways to find inspiration is to head to Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores and wander their fabric aisles. I can’t even count how many parties have been inspired by a little scrap of fabric!

Recently, while planning a spring tablescape, I found a bolt of fabric with a peachy floral pattern that I fell in love with. The colors were different than the typical pinks you see in springtime and I loved the vintage style of the fabric. I knew it would make an excellent table runner for my party. I grabbed the bolt and headed for the trim aisle.

I have quite a few crafting and party planning skills, but when it comes to sewing, unfortunately, that talent doesn’t make the list. If you’re like me, no worries! I’ll show you my secret to table runners made simple….Fabric Glue!

You will need:
• Fabric Glue
• Fabric
• Trim
• Fabric Scissors .

 

Directions:

1. Cut fabric to the length of your table, plus an additional 6” to 12” (your preference) on either side of the table.

2. Cut (2) pieces of trim the length of your fabric. Set aside. Cut (2) pieces of trim the width of your fabric.

3. On a long, flat surface, lay fabric and trim out. Give the back of the trim a dash of fabric glue about 12” long. Attach trim to the edge of the fabric. Press down to adhere glue to fabric. Continue gluing in 12” sections until you reach the end. Repeat steps on opposite length of fabric.

 

 

4. Glue remaining trim pieces for the ends of the runner. Allow to dry.

 

 

Once your table runner is complete, you can begin styling your table! I like to use things I already own and mix in a few seasonal items to give it a fresh look.

When hosting a brunch, lunch or dinner, it’s helpful to get your table set before the day of the party. I like to get my table set ahead of time so I know what’s missing and allow myself time to pick up additional items if needed.

Once your table runner is complete, you can begin styling your table! I like to use things I already own and mix in a few seasonal items to give it a fresh look.

 

 

For my spring tablescape centerpiece, I used simple white baskets filled with grass and speckled eggs I placed vintage peach glass down the center of the table to mark where the food would be going and filled the holes with small vasesspring flowers.To personalize each place setting, I filled burlap bags with a napkin and silverware and tied it shut with a little sprig of baby’s breath. I tucked a little Kraft colored tag on each setting with the guest’s name, written with a chalk marker.

 

 

 

Once your table is set, you can cross it off your to-do list and begin prepping the best part, the food!

 

Lastly, I placed a miniature cake pedestal near each place setting, topped with a mini speckled egg cake! (Cakes are fine to sit out 24 hours ahead of a party.)
