Game Day for Kids

Spring Break in the PNW almost always guarantees a week of rain.  For the next 15 days it’s all rain in the forecast, which is a bummer because I live with two really active kids who enjoy being outdoors!

Sure there are bouncy house places, bowling alleys, the movies, mall, Target (obvi) to keep the kids busy indoors.  But sometimes you just want to stay home!  To avoid cabin fever or bored restlessness, I planned an afternoon of games with my kids.  We broke out a few of the old classics, grabbed some snacks and let the games begin!

We started the afternoon off with Jenga.  This is a simple one for almost any age!

Hudson loved it.  We probably re-stacked that thing ten times before he wanted to move on to another game.

Ally finally convinced him to move on to the next game..Bingo.  Another simple game for kids!

Finally we changed the scenery and moved to a table to play Scrabble.  This one is a little harder for kids but challenged them.  Who says game day can’t be educational?

Best part.. free.  Grab a stack of games and spend a few hours playing with your kids.  I guarantee you it’ll be fun!

Here’s my list of must-haves for a simple Rainy Game Day at home

*Great food:  Chips, dips, cheese and cracker plates, etc.  Pull out old paper party plates and napkins.  No need to make a bunch of dishes.  Your kids will love eating off of a festive plate!

*Drinks: Dress up a basic soda by adding colorful straws, marachino cherries and serve in a fun glass.  Your kids will love it!

*Game Options: Board games, card games, interactive games (charades, Pictionary, Twister, Puzzles).

*Prizes:  Raise the bar a bit.  Whoever wins gets to stay up an hour later, watch their favorite movie or gets out of chores for the day.. Keep it interesting!

What do you do to keep the kids busy on rainy days?

Pin this idea for later!
