Ice Cream Inspired Cupcakes

If you love ice cream as much as I do, these cupcakes are going to be your new favorite summer dessert.

Instead of frosting cupcakes with a traditional swirl, I used a large cookie scoop to create buttercream that looks just like real scoops of ice cream. It’s such a simple decorating trick, but it completely transforms an ordinary cupcake into something playful, nostalgic, and bakery-worthy.

I love serving these for birthdays, summer parties, backyard BBQs, ice cream socials, and dessert tables because they instantly make people smile.

The best part?

Each cupcake is inspired by a different classic ice cream flavor, so there’s something for everyone.

Why You’ll Love These Cupcakes

  • They look like real scoops of ice cream.
  • Perfect for summer birthdays and parties.
  • Easy decorating technique anyone can do.
  • Endless flavor combinations.
  • Great for dessert tables.
  • Fun for kids and adults.
  • Perfect make-ahead party dessert.

The Secret to the Ice Cream Look

One of my favorite decorating tricks is using a large cookie scoop instead of piping a traditional swirl.

Simply scoop the buttercream onto each cooled cupcake, then gently smooth any rough edges with an offset spatula if needed.

The result looks just like a scoop of your favorite ice cream sitting on top of a cupcake.

It’s simple, charming, and always gets people talking.
