Summer Camp Themed Desserts
There’s something about summer camp that instantly brings back memories.
Campfires after dark. Sticky fingers from s’mores. Sleeping bags rolled out under the stars. Flashlights, friendship bracelets, and the smell of pine trees in the air.
Even if you never went away to camp, chances are you have memories of summer nights spent outside, roasting marshmallows and staying up later than usual.
That’s exactly what inspired this collection of summer camp themed desserts.
I wanted everything to feel playful, nostalgic, and a little bit whimsical. Think toasted marshmallows, campfire treats, woodland-inspired cookies, and desserts that would feel right at home around a picnic table in the woods.
If you’re planning a summer birthday party, backyard campout, baby shower, or camp-themed celebration, these desserts are a fun way to bring the theme to life.

Chocolate Campfire Cake
Every dessert table needs a centerpiece, and for this theme, it had to be a chocolate cake.
This rich chocolate layer cake is decorated with toasted marshmallows icons, filled with s’mores buttercream in the center, and iced with smooth vanilla buttercream that’s the perfect amount of sweetness.
It feels rustic, playful, and perfect for a summer gathering.
my favorite cake decorating supplies:

Camp-Themed Sugar Cookies
Decorated sugar cookies are one of my favorite ways to tie a theme together.
For this dessert theme, I created cookies inspired by some of the most iconic parts of summer camp:
Each cookie was decorated with vanilla buttercream and designed to feel colorful, nostalgic, and fun.
I especially loved the little sasquatch cookie covered in chocolate jimmies to create a fuzzy texture. It’s one of those details that makes people smile the second they see it.

S’mores Smash Cookies
You can’t have a camp-themed dessert table without s’mores.
These oversized smash cookies are loaded with chocolate, marshmallow, and graham cracker flavor. They have a chocolate smash cookie base with marshmallow graham cracker buttercream, drizzled with chocolate ganache and garnished with toasted marshmallows and graham cracker crumbs! YUM!
They’re soft, gooey, and packed with everything people love about a classic campfire treat.

Mixed Berry Cupcakes
To balance out all the chocolate and toasted marshmallow flavors, I added vanilla cupcakes topped with mixed berry buttercream.
The bright berry flavor feels fresh and summery while the soft pastel colors add a fun pop to the dessert table.
They also pair beautifully with the woodland-inspired colors throughout the rest of the theme.
Mixed Berry Buttercream
Ingredients
For the Berry Reduction:
- 1/2 cup diced strawberries
- 1/4 cup raspberries
- 1/4 cup blackberries
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
For the Buttercream:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of kosher salt
- 3-4 tablespoons cooled mixed berry reduction
Instructions
Make the Berry Reduction:
- In a small saucepan, combine the strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, sugar, and lemon juice.
- Cook over medium heat for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the berries have broken down and the mixture has thickened into a jam-like consistency.
- Press the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove the seeds.
- Allow the berry puree to cool completely before adding it to the buttercream.
The Frosting:
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat the softened butter for 3–5 minutes until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Mix in the vanilla extract, salt, and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream.
- Beat until smooth.
- Slowly mix in 3–4 tablespoons of the cooled berry reduction until fully incorporated.
- If needed, add another tablespoon of cream until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
- Beat for another 2–3 minutes until light and fluffy.
Notes
Jenny’s Tips
- Let the berry reduction cool completely before mixing it into the frosting.
- Straining out the seeds creates the smoothest buttercream.
- If you’re piping tall swirls, chill the frosting for 10–15 minutes before decorating.
- For an extra bakery-style look, garnish cupcakes with fresh berries or freeze-dried berry pieces.

How to Create a Summer Camp Dessert Table
One thing I’ve learned after creating dessert tables for years is that the best ones have a mix of flavors, textures, and heights.
For this setup, I focused on:
A Show-Stopping Centerpiece
The chocolate campfire cake immediately draws your eye.
A Decorated Element
The sugar cookies help tell the story and reinforce the theme.
A Nostalgic Dessert
The s’mores cookies instantly remind guests of campfires and summer nights.
A Fresh Flavor
The berry cupcakes keep the dessert table from feeling too heavy.
Together they create a dessert table that feels balanced, fun, and full of personality.
Perfect for Summer Parties
These camp-inspired desserts would be adorable for:
The theme feels playful enough for kids but nostalgic enough for adults.
I love how these desserts bring back memories of summer nights, campfires, and all the little things that make this season special.
From the campfire cake to the sasquatch cookies and gooey s’mores treats, every dessert feels like a little reminder to slow down, spend time outside, and enjoy the simple things.
