Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • 4 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 10 oz mini marshmallows about one bag
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Line a 9×13 pan with parchment paper and lightly butter it. This makes removing and cutting the treats so much easier.
  • In a large pot, melt the butter over low heat.
  • Add the marshmallows and a pinch of salt. Stir until completely melted and smooth.
  • Remove from heat and immediately fold in the cereal until evenly coated.
  • Press the mixture gently into the prepared pan.
  • Let cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes before cutting.

Notes

Butter your hands or spatula when pressing the treats into the pan, it helps a lot.
For thicker treats, use a smaller pan or cut into large cubes instead of squares.
These are best the day they’re made, but they’ll keep covered for 2–3 days.

Cutting + shaping ideas

This is where the photos really shine.

  • Cut into oversized cubes for a bakery-style look
  • Use heart cookie cutters for Valentine’s Day
  • Slice into rectangles and drizzle with chocolate
  • Stack and wrap individually for gifting

Bigger pieces feel more special and hold up better when decorated.

Flavor variations to try

Once you have the base recipe, it’s easy to customize. I like adding flavors while the marshmallows are melting or folding in extras at the end.

Snickerdoodle Rice Krispie Treats

Add cinnamon, vanilla, and a cinnamon-sugar sprinkle on top.

S’mores Rice Krispie Treats

Decorating + gifting ideas

Rice Krispie treats are incredibly easy to dress up:

  • Drizzle with chocolate or white chocolate
  • Dip corners and add sprinkles
  • Wrap individally in parchment or treat bags
  • Add a simple tag or ribbon

They’re perfect for school treats, party favors, or adding to a dessert table.

Quick ganache (chocolate or white chocolate)

It’s great for drizzling over cupcakes, dipping the tops, or letting drip naturally down the sides.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  • Place the chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
  • Heat the cream until just warm and steaming, not boiling! You can do this on the stove or in the microwave.
  • Pour the warm cream over the chocolate and let it sit undisturbed for 2–3 minutes.
  • Gently stir from the center outward until smooth and glossy.
  • Let the ganache cool slightly before drizzling. It will thicken as it sits.

Notes

  • For a thinner drizzle, use it while warm.
  • For dipping cupcake tops, let it cool until slightly thickened but still fluid.
  • If it thickens too much, gently rewarm in short bursts.
  • White chocolate ganache works the same way, just swap in white chocolate chips.
