Oreo Smash Cookies

If you’re an Oreo lover, these cookies are about to become your new favorite.

They start with a thick, fudgy chocolate cookie that’s gently pressed after baking to create the perfect little well for a generous scoop of creamy Oreo buttercream. Finished with crushed Oreo cookies, they’re rich, nostalgic, and taste like something you’d pick up from your favorite bakery.

They’re perfect for birthdays, dessert tables, cookie boxes, or anytime you’re craving cookies and cream.

Why You’ll Love These Cookies

  • Thick, bakery-style chocolate cookies
  • Creamy homemade Oreo buttercream
  • Soft, fudgy centers with crisp edges
  • Easy to decorate
  • Perfect for birthdays and parties
  • Great make-ahead dessert
  • A cookies-and-cream lover’s dream

What Makes a Smash Cookie?

Unlike a traditional frosted cookie, a smash cookie is gently pressed while it’s still warm using the bottom of a measuring cup or glass.

This creates:

  • Thick, chewy edges
  • A soft center
  • The perfect place for buttercream to sit
  • A bakery-style look that’s surprisingly easy to recreate

It’s one of my favorite decorating techniques because it makes every cookie look a little more special.

Tips for the Best Oreo Smash Cookies

  • Let the cookies cool completely before frosting.
  • Crush the Oreos very finely so the buttercream stays smooth.
  • Don’t overbake the cookies. They should still look slightly soft in the center.
  • If the buttercream becomes too soft, refrigerate it for 10–15 minutes before frosting.
  • Finish with extra Oreo crumbs or even half of a mini Oreo for a bakery-style presentation.
