My January Recap

January always feels like the longest month.

It’s slow, cozy, a little chaotic, and full of good intentions. And this year was no exception. Between trying to reset after the holidays, juggling recipes, celebrating Ally’s birthday, living through home construction, and leaning into simple routines again, January felt very full.

Here’s a little look at what our January actually looked like!

A Gentle 31-Day Reset

At the start of January, I did a 31-day reset. Not in a strict, all-or-nothing way, but in a let’s feel better way.

For me, that meant:

  • Moving my body
  • Cutting back on sugar (not eliminating it entirely)
  • Prioritizing protein and real food
  • Getting back into simple routines

No dramatic detoxes. No unrealistic rules. Just small, consistent shifts that helped me feel more grounded after the holidays.

One of my favorite things about this reset was how much better it made my energy and creativity, especially in the kitchen.

Valentine’s Day Baking

January quietly turned into Valentine’s prep month around here.

I tested and shared Valentine’s Day cupcake recipes, and they might be some of my favorite bakes lately. Soft, cozy, and simple enough to make without turning your kitchen into a disaster zone.

If you’re planning something sweet this February, these cupcakes are such an easy win.

Strawberry Matcha Protein Chia Overnight Oats (A New Favorite)

One of the easiest habits I brought back this month was simple breakfasts I could prep ahead.

These strawberry matcha protein chia overnight oats were on repeat. They’re:

  • Light but filling
  • Packed with protein
  • Easy to make the night before
  • Slightly fancy-feeling without the effort

They were perfect for busy mornings and helped me stay consistent without overthinking food.

Cozy, Healthy Chili Nights

January = chili season. Always.

I shared a healthy chili recipe that quickly became a staple for us this month. It’s hearty, comforting, and the kind of meal that makes the house smell amazing while it simmers.

This was one of those recipes that felt nourishing without feeling restrictive, which is exactly how I like to eat this time of year.

Leftovers were even better the next day (always a win).

PB Bliss Chocolate Protein Balls

Because balance matters, especially in January.

These PB bliss chocolate protein balls were my go-to sweet snack this month. They hit that chocolate craving while still being protein-packed and satisfying.

I love having something like this prepped for afternoons when I want something sweet but don’t want a sugar crash.

Ally’s Birthday Month

January also meant celebrating Ally’s birthday, which feels emotional every year in the best way.

We kept things simple, and went on a little weekend getaway. Watching her grow has made me appreciate these slower moments even more.

It was a really special reminder that not every celebration needs to be big to be meaningful.

Life Lately: Living Through Construction

If you’ve ever lived through construction, you know… it’s a lot.

There’s currently construction happening at our house, which has added a layer of noise, mess, and unpredictability to everyday life. It’s one of those seasons where you’re constantly adjusting and reminding yourself that it’s temporary.

Some days felt productive.
Other days felt like survival mode.
Both count.

Valentine’s Day Gift Guide Coming Together

January also meant working ahead and putting together a Valentine’s Day gift guide, which I’m really excited about.

A Recipe I Loved Making: Spicy Chicken Yum Yum Rice Bowls

One recipe I made and shared this month was Half Baked Harvest’s spicy chicken yum yum rice bowls, and wow… so good!

It was one of those meals that felt restaurant-level but still doable at home. Perfect for breaking up winter dinners and adding a little excitement to the week.

Definitely one I’ll be making again.

Closing out January

January was grounding.

It was about getting back into routines, feeding ourselves well, celebrating small milestones, and letting life be a little messy while still moving forward.

If there’s one thing I’m taking into February, it’s this:
Progress doesn’t have to be loud to be meaningful.
