10 Must-Have Pieces for Your Summer Wardrobe

It’s officially summer (or at least it’s starting to feel like it), and I’m doing what I always do this time of year: pulling out warm-weather staples, editing what I don’t wear, and refreshing a few pieces that just didn’t survive last season.
If you’re looking to simplify your closet and get a few timeless staples in rotation, here are 10 pieces every summer wardrobe needs. They’re things you’ll reach for again and again, year after year.
1. woven bag
Whether you’re headed to the farmers market, pool, or a last-minute dinner, a woven bag just works. It instantly adds a relaxed, summery vibe to any outfit and holds all the sunscreen, snacks, and sunglasses too.
2. flip flops
They’re baaaacck! I’ve been wearing mine non stop. Around the house, on a quick Target run, or with a swimsuit and coverup. Look for a cushy pair you can walk in (and don’t mind getting wet).
3. denim shorts
High-rise, mid-rise, vintage-inspired or stretchy and soft—whatever your style, find a pair you feel great in and keep them close. They’re a summer MVP.
4. sunglasses
One solid pair that flatters your face and makes you feel pulled together is all you need. I love a classic black or tortoise frame, but have a little fun with shape or color if you want to mix it up.
5. summer hats
Sun protection, but make it cute. Whether you’re a straw hat girl or live in a baseball cap, having a go-to hat makes any outfit feel more summery (and keeps your face shaded too).
6. white skirts
Crisp, easy, and surprisingly versatile. I love pairing mine with a simple tank or button-up for a polished but effortless look. Throw a sweater over your shoulders for when the sun goes down.
7. lightweight button-up shirt
This one does it all. Use it as a beach coverup, wear it open over a tank and shorts, or tuck it into linen pants for something a little more styled.
8. simple slide sandals
Slides are the upgrade from flip flops that still feel just as easy. Pick a pair in a neutral color and you’ll wear them with everything from dresses to denim.
9. Linen pants
These are my go-to when I want to be comfy but still look put-together. They’re breathable, forgiving, and feel a little more polished than shorts, especially for travel or dinner out.
10. classic swimwear
Forget trendy cuts or wild patterns. A timeless one-piece or bikini in a flattering solid color (think black, white, or brown) will last you summer after summer. It’s the kind of suit you never regret packing.
Whether you’re planning a vacation, chasing kids around the yard, or just trying to stay cool in the heat, having a few easy, reliable pieces makes getting dressed a whole lot simpler.
