The Jenny Cookies Metro

In early 2017, just minutes after landing in LA for a work trip, I scrolled through my phone while waiting for luggage at baggage claim.  I came across a Facebook post from someone selling an International Harvester Metro truck.  It was beat up, rusted and in need of some serious TLC. Being a lover of all things vintage, I saw past all the dents, rust and lack of drivability and imagined how cute it could be.  Without giving it a lot of thought, I posted “SOLD” in the comments.

I had just opened Jenny Cookies Bake Shop 6 months prior and was ready for another project.  It felt like just the right opportunity to get our treats out on the road and into the communities of customers and fans driving such long distances to our destination shop in Lake Stevens.  I called Dan to let him know I landed safely and snuck in a “Hey, also, I bought a truck for the shop”…..

Dan has always been supportive of my crazy ideas and was along for the ride.  I was certain I could make it the cutest truck ever…but failed to consider just how much work it was going to be to bring this truck back to life.  Let’s just say, it’s nearly the end of 2020 and this project has been a real love hate relationship.

The Jenny Cookies Metro has definitely been one of the more challenging ventures I’ve taken on, and for sure one of the most expensive.  The original price tag of the beat up truck I bought on Facebook ended up being about 15 times the price when it was all said and done.  But you know what, we made it to the finish line and I think you’ll agree, it really is the cutest truck ever!!

Take a peek at the before and afters:

What’s the plan for it now?  Honestly, many of my best laid plans have taken new direction this year due to Covid, the Metro being one of them.  With the help of my incredible team, we’ve made some great transitions and adjustments to remain in business and continue serving up sweets and smiles.  The original Metro business plan has detoured but we’re excited to take you along with us on the new road ahead.

In the meantime, you can get the first look at the Metro at our Bibbidi Bobbidi BOO event this Saturday at Jenny Cookies Bake Shop.  In addition to all of the magical themed Halloweentime treats we’ll have inside the shop, Dan and I will be working inside the Metro, offering a special, limited edition treat Saturday only!!   Follow along at @jennycookies for more sneak peeks of the event.

Let me know what you think of the new truck in the comments below!  And if you think about us, keep the Metro in your prayers.  This old 1967 truck can use all the prayers it can get!

Pin this idea for later!

I saw the story of dan taking it for decals and I thought that someone had made a car company had redone the vintage look. I did not know that you had purchased and made it come back to life.
