How To Create a Fall Porch
The air is crisp, the leaves are changing and pumpkins are showing up in every social media feed, magazine cover and grocery store item. It’s time to decorate your porch!! It’s very simple to do and creates such a warm welcome for your guests.
Begin by gathering fall-themed items and build as you go. Create a traditional porch with pumpkins, bales of hay and mums or stick with a color theme. For example, for a more Halloween themed porch, you could use all white pumpkins and mix in black lanterns. Combine natural items with vintage pieces for a more rustic fall combo. I like to change my porch every year rather than pull out the exact display from the year before. I never really know how my porch will look like, I just gather items and try out different combinations!
My porch this year is made up of a lot of pumpkins, an old wood ladder, a metal tub, a vintage pendelton plaid blanket and a darling custom sign (made by Eylander Sign Co).
Last year I went with a more natural look and used tons of pumpkins and gourds displayed on a vintage bar cart. I stretched my summer flowers into the fall, plopped a pumpkin on a vintage chair and used my rain boots as decor!
The year before I created a more rustic look using lots of vintage crates, lanterns and mixed wicker pumpkins with real pumpkins. It’s so pretty with the candles lit inside the lanterns and lights the way for little trick-or-treaters!
Once you’ve collected your display pieces, begin to stagger and create height in your display. Can you turn a crate upside down and place a pumpkin on it? Do you have an old chair you can pull out and use for a basket of flowers? Look around your garage or property to see what you could use that you already own. Be resourceful. Grab your children’s wagon and fill it with pumpkins and fall mums! Use what you have!
If you’re still stuck wondering what to use, here’s a great list of items that make for a fantastic fall porch:
