Advent Calendar DIY

It’s ALMOST here. Starbucks is serving coffee in red cups, ornaments and stockings line the shelves at Target, and you can rejoice because Candy Cane Joe’s Joe’s are back at Trader Joes. Go ahead. Pull out your Michael Buble Christmas album, it’s fine. I did a week ago.

It really is the most wonderful time of the year. I cannot wait to unpack my vintage elf collection, decorate my front porch, and begin living exclusively on Christmas edition cadbury eggs. It’s the BEST!!

This year I decided to go beyond the cardboard chocolate filled advent calendar and do something a little more exciting. Don’t get me wrong, I’m SURE we will still pick up a .99 cent advent calendar, it’s really not Christmas until one of my children has eaten the entire calendar half way through the month.

I found these darling numbered advent bags on Etsy and asked the seller if she would make a larger size bag (4×6). She was sweeter than sweet and shipped out a set the next day! They arrived with a teeny tiny spool of red and white twine and tiny clothespins. I could hardly wait to fill them!

Instead of stringing them across my fireplace, I decided to hang them from an old vintage ladder I had. Using vintage clothespins I attached the bags from red twine wrapped around each rung of the ladder (the mini clothespins were the adorable, but not strong enough to hold the filled bags). It turned out so cute!!

If you want to re-create a similar advent calendar for your family, you can find the bags here! Don’t worry if you don’t have a ladder, there are plenty of places you can hang your advent bags. String them across your fireplace, your staircase, a vintage window or chalkboard, or even your Christmas tree!

What Christmas traditions do you have with your family?
