Salty Sweet Santa Bark

Equipment

  • Cookie Sheet
  • spatula
  • Angled Spatula
  • Sprinkles
  • Mason Jars
  • Flannel
  • Gift Tags

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 sleeves Ritz Crackers
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2/3 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 3 cups chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  • Line 9×13 baking sheet with non-stick baking spray.
  • Line the pan with ritz crackers.  They won’t fit perfectly but do your best to lay crackers out flat.  Breaking crackers in half to fill entire space will help!
  • Over medium heat, melt butter, peanut butter and brown sugar until the sugar has just dissolved. Pour mixture over the ritz crackers and spread evenly to distribute.
  • Place in the oven preheated to 425 for about five minutes or until it just starts to bubble.
  • Remove from oven and add chocolate chips over the top.
  • Let chocolate chips sit about a minute, then using a spatula, spread evenly across the top of the pan. While chocolate is still melted, top with sprinkles if desired.
  • Place in freezer for about 15 minutes.
  • Break apart and enjoy!

Notes

Once the Salty Sweet Santa Bark is broken, fill mason jars, boxes, tins and trays with the delicious bark.  Cut strips of flannel to tie around the lid of the jar or a longer piece to tie up a box.  Presentation is everything!   That little flannel touch takes your holiday gift from so-so to Wow!!
As I tied my jars up, I realized the little strip of fabric tied around the jar resembled a little snowman!   To take this project the extra mile, it could be fun to make a little sticker or label for the top of the jar with a snowman face and even glue-gun on a few buttons on the side of the jar.
Whatever way you package up the bark, the gesture will be appreciated and enjoyed.  Tis the season to think of others and give a little of your time and talents to them.  I love seeing people do for others, stepping out of their day to day lives to recognize another person and acknowledge them with a simple gift like a jar of Santa Bark!
In addition to mason jars, I love using simple white bakery boxes to package holiday treats.  These white boxes by Wilton can be used for mini pies, cookies or just a few pieces of Sweet & Salty Santa Bark!  Get creative at your local JOANN store with holiday packaging.  Ribbons, bows, tags, jars, boxes, yarn.. you'll be inspired in no time while browsing the aisles.
