Poulsbo by Boat: A Perfect Seattle Day Trip
We’ve been wanting to boat over to Poulsbo for awhile, and this past weekend we finally made it happen. Dan captained, Hudson was our deckhand, and we lucked out with the most beautiful Seattle summer day: sunny skies, calm water, and perfect cruising weather.
Pulling into the marina, I was instantly charmed. Poulsbo is clean, colorful, and full of friendly faces. The waterfront is lined with coffee shops, restaurants, bakeries, boutiques, and plenty of spots to wander. It has that touristy feel in a good way, easy to explore with something new around every corner.
What we did in Poulsbo
- Coffee at Byrdie’s – A must-stop for great coffee and pastries before exploring. Don’t miss the Cookie Butter Latte.
- Sluys Bakery – Famous for their donuts (we can confirm they live up to the hype).
- Candy Shop – Stocked up on treats for the ride home. Lots of swedish candy and nostalgic sweets.
- Toy Store – Such a cute, old-fashioned shop full of unique finds including a good selection of Jellycats.
- Antique Shops – I came home with a couple treasures I couldn’t pass up.
- Ice Cream Shop – Because no summer day trip is complete without a cone. They even had Peanut Butter.

- The Loft – Waterfront dining with friendly service and a great menu. We couldn’t resist trying the fried avocado fries (so good!) and Hudson ordered the steamed clams, which were fresh and flavorful.
getting there
If you have access to a boat, cruising over to Poulsbo is such a fun way to go. But if not, you can still make it an easy day trip by car, just hop on the Edmonds–Kingston ferry and drive about 20 minutes to the waterfront.

Poulsbo completely exceeded our expectations. It’s the kind of day trip that makes you wonder why you waited so long to go, and one we’ll definitely be repeating.
