How to Make Easy DIY Bandana Bag Charms
These bandana bag charms were such a fun activity at our recent favorite things party, and they couldn’t be easier to make. You can customize them with different colors, charms, and textures to match your style or your event theme. Here’s how to make your own:

What You’ll Need:
- Bandanas (cut into strips, approx. 1″ x 18″)
- Key rings or lobster claw clasps
- Small charms (beads, shells, initials, etc.)
- Scissors
- Jump rings and small pliers for attaching charms
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Prep Your Bandanas
Cut your bandanas into strips about 1 inch wide and 18 inches long. You can mix and match colors or keep it simple with one. Frayed edges add to the charm!
2. Attach to the Key Ring
Fold one strip in half and pull the looped end through the key ring. Then pull the two loose ends through the loop and tighten to create a knot. Repeat with more strips until the ring looks full and fluffy, about 3 to 5 strips works well.
3. Add Your Charms
Tie on a charm or two or three! You can knot them right onto a bandana strip or use a jump ring to clip them to the key ring. Get creative here, use initials, tiny shells, tassels, or beads!
4. Trim as Needed
Once everything is tied on, trim any ends that feel too long or uneven. You can keep it clean or leave it a little wild, it’s totally up to you!
5. Clip & Style
Use the lobster clasp or ring to clip the charm onto your tote, beach bag, backpack, or gift them to friends!
Tips:
- If you’re making these at a party, pre-cut the strips and lay out all the supplies so guests can mix and match.
- Want to make it seasonal? Try flannel in the fall or pastel cotton in the spring.
- Add personalization with mini alphabet beads or initial charms.
