Teen Bedroom | Ally’s room
This month my favorite girl turns 13. It’s hard to believe how quick time goes. Every year that passes, she continues to impress me with her kindness, maturity and determination. She has had a heart of gold since she was a tiny little girl and it just grows bigger and bigger with every season.
When Ally was 3 she fell madly in love with flamingos. I have no idea why, maybe because they are pink? Whatever the reason, she was infatuated. She carried around a little plush flamingo for months that we found at the zoo (the only store that had flamingo gifts…unlike now, where you can find flamingo everything, everywhere).
Flamingos have always reminded me of Ally, so when I came across this wallpaper, I knew it was perfect for her bedroom. Not too cutesy, not too grown up. I had never wallpapered before so I knew this would be a bit of a commitment, but we both love how it turned out!
We upgraded Ally to a queen size bed and found this blush velvet bed that matched her wallpaper perfectly. Since the wallpaper was busy, I kept her bedding really simple in whites and pinks and made her promise never to play with slime on her bed. Since the bed took up so much of the room, I added a floor lamp on one side of her bed and a glass bedside table on the other. The glass allowed more of the wallpaper to show and had just enough room to store a few books/journals.
I joke with Ally that I’d like to live in her room. I had always wanted this Anthro mirror and when I finally ordered it, it was way too small for the space I was imagining. She begged me to put it in her room and it turns out, it actually looks great in there! I added an ottoman at the base to give her something to sit on when she is braiding her hair, applying lip gloss or whatever 12 year olds do in front of the mirror.
Next to her bed is a rug, which I know is weird to put over carpet, but I really love a rug in a room! I loved the pattern and detailing, plus it gave the floor a little dimension. I didn’t get a great photo of the full rug but I linked it so you can see the whole thing on the source site.
I found this palm leaf lamp and thought it went perfect up against the flamingos and then took it a step further and added a fiddle leaf tree to her room. When I came home with it, she was so excited I was going to let her have it in her room. The only catch was..she has to dust it! They are easy to kill, so we’re crossing our fingers we can keep it alive. (The pot is linked here.) If you look reallllly close you can see tiny fairy lights we put on the tree. It looks magical at night!
Her bedroom isn’t huge, so I updated her dresser to a smaller piece but it didn’t come in time for the photos. I linked it here if anyone is curious! It is SO CUTE and takes up way less space. Above the dresser we hung two marble shelves and let her decorate them with little knick knacks.
I didn’t take a great before picture, so I pulled the listing photo when the home was for sale. You’ll see several differences with the biggest one being the room was previously GREEN!
In addition to the wallpaper, we also painted the room white, updated the flooring and swapped out the light fixture. What a difference!
Ally, I’m moving in! Goldie too 🙂
What do you think? Let me know in the comments below!

Right!! Maybe at least a sleepover soon 🙂
Lucky girl! Such a beautiful room. You did a great job.
Thank you Renee! I appreciate it!
I love it! I’m in the process of updating my two daughters’ rooms as well. Isn’t it fun?? Wondering if you could share the link to the dresser?
Whoops! Forgot to link that one. I just added it, you should be good to go!
So cute!!
Thanks Kaylynn!
Gorgeous!! Just doing my 14 yr olds room and it’s so hard to redo it the way I see it and still have it be her style…. how much creative license did you give her?
PS the light fixture?? Love it!
Isn’t that light fixture fun?? I ordered it for my room and it didn’t look right in the space so she got it! Ally and I have really similar style, so there wasn’t anything I showed her that she didn’t like..which worked out well!
Love it, Jenny! The textures and tones blend together so beautifully for a teenage girl. So dreamy.?
Thanks Joelle! I really love how it all came together!
It’s dreamy! Lovin’ the blush color and the light fixture! What a lucky Birthday Girl!
Thanks Sue! She deserves it!
I thought of Ally when I put my flamingo ornament on my tree this year. I love her room ??
Awww! I love that you still have it! You will always be so special to us!
I love it! Beautiful and subtle!
Regarding putting a rug down on carpet? I did that in Braeden’s room as well. It was for a utilitarian reason, about his special needs, but I LOVE how it looks! It gave a small room depth and interest, while fulfilling a need that is unique.
Yes! Love that 🙂
Where is the poof from? So cute!!
Hi Tonya! It’s from Target!
Looks great! Where did you get the fig tree? I haven’t been able to find them locally.
This is so beautiful and timeless. I want to do this in my spare bedroom as a room to escape to!
Thank you Amy! Yes, you should!
Beautifu! Can you tell me where the dresser mirror is from? Thank you!
Absolutely gorgeous! May I ask where the dresser mirror is from? Thank you!
Thank you Colleen! The dresser seen here is from Restoration Hardware. The new dresser is linked in the post (West Elm).
