DIY Gingerbread Night Kits: The Cutest Giftable Holiday Experience
Some gifts are just fun to give, the ones that feel a little unexpected and bring people together. Gingerbread night kits have quickly become one of my favorite holiday ideas because they’re simple to put together, easy to customize, and guaranteed to spark a little laughter (and maybe a little friendly competition) around the kitchen table.
If you’re looking for a festive, budget-friendly gift that works for neighbors, teachers, friends, families with kids, teens, grandparents, or anyone who enjoys a comfy night in… this is it.
Here’s exactly what I included in mine, how to package them, and a free printable card to make the whole experience even sweeter.

What to Include in a Gingerbread Night Kit
Here’s everything I added to mine (use whatever you already have or can easily grab at the store):
- pre-built gingerbread house
- Marshmallows
- Gumdrops
- Holiday M&Ms
- Pretzel sticks
- Cereal (for shingles!)
- Crushed candy cane
- Shredded coconut
- Candy canes
- Hot cocoa packets
- Piping icing or pre-filled icing bags
- My printable “Tips for a Successful Build” card (below)
These little details turn it from a couple of gingerbread houses into a whole experience.
How to Package the Kits
I used these trays from Amazon for mine, but use whatever feels right:
- Kraft boxes
- Clear cellophane bags tied with ribbon
- Small wooden crates
- Holiday baskets
- Gift totes
- cookie sheet
Add some shredded paper, tuck everything inside, and finish with a ribbon and the printable card.

Who These Make Great Gifts For
This is one of those gift ideas that works for almost anyone:
- Neighbors
- Teachers
- Friends
- Families with kids
- Teens
- Elderly friends or community members
- Hostess gifts
- Co-workers
It’s thoughtful without being expensive, and it creates a moment rather than clutter.
What’s on the Printable Card

Inside the kit, I include a card with quick, helpful tips like:
- Start with cocoa
- Use a muffin tin for toppings
- Cover the table with kraft paper
- Warm the icing (or “paint” it on with a pretzel stick!)
- Fun topping ideas
- Turn on a holiday movie
- Snap a photo of the finished houses
It’s a cute little guide that makes the night feel even more special.
