Fall is without a doubt my favorite season and fall clothing is at the top of the list. Give me all the sweaters, rich colors, cozy textures, and layers. A handful of staples can go a long way when it comes to creating effortless fall outfits and here are the 10 + fall wardrobe pieces I think every closet needs this season!

The kind of denim you’ll want to live in this fall.

Skirts, dresses, leggings… tall boots make an outfit. Pick a pair you’ll wear on repeat.
Oversize Blazer

The “I didn’t try but I look like I did” layer. Works just as well for errands as it does for dinner out.

Oversize Sweater (Crewneck or Cardigan)

The definition of cozy chic. Perfect for layering.
Trench Coat

Always timeless, always chic. It pulls every outfit together. Truly the piece you’ll keep forever.

How to use this list
These pieces aren’t just trendy they’re the building blocks of a fall wardrobe. Mix and match them for school drop-off, work, date night, or a cozy weekend at home. Each category includes options from low to high (think Target to investment pieces you’ll keep for years). You don’t need everything at once; add one or two staples and your fall outfits will feel instantly fresh.
Before you add anything new to your cart, I always recommend starting with your own closet. Chances are, you already have a few of these staples tucked away (a trench, a cozy sweater, maybe even loafers from last year). Pull them out, see what still feels current, and let go of anything that’s dated, worn, or just not your style anymore. Once you’ve taken inventory, it’s so much easier to see what’s missing, and then you can shop intentionally for the pieces that will really round out your fall wardrobe.
A few quick closet tips:
- Try everything on! Sometimes a piece feels different than you remember.
- If it’s worn, pilled, or stretched out, it’s probably time to say goodbye.
- Keep only what you truly love wearing (and what fits well).
- Donate or resell what doesn’t work, so you can make room for new staples.
Hope this helps you find some new fall favorites, it always feels good to freshen things up for the season ahead!
