CHARM IT! Crayola Creativity Design-a-Charm Contest Launch Party
Growing up, one of my favorite childhood possessions was my plastic charm necklace. If you lived through the 80’s, surely you are familiar. They were crazy cheap and you could find them EVERYWHERE.
Years later I have my own daughter and wanted her to have a special necklace to build a charm collection on. Imagine how thrilled I was to discover CHARM IT!, a charm jewelry line created for little girls. I first discovered them at the cash wraps of stores like Nordstrom and Gap Kids and ever since I can’t shop at those stores without coming home with a new charm for Ally.
This year CHARM IT! has teamed up with Crayola for the CHARM IT! Crayola Creativity Design-a-Charm Contest for girls to draw and color what they think CHARM IT! should create into a charm. It’s genius. CHARM IT! selects 12 winners based on (a) design’s ability to be reproduced as a CHARM IT! charm (50%); (b) creative appeal of design and colors (25%); and (c) uniqueness of design (25%). Each winner receives the awesome title of CHARM IT! Guest Designer and their charm design produced and sold nationwide as well as a $100 USD gift certificate to www.shopcharm-it.com, AND a single $1,500 USD donation of Crayola product will be made to the Kids In Need Foundation in honor of the winners by Crayola.
Ally and I thought it would be fun to invite a few of her friends over for a CHARM IT! play date. Living in Seattle, there usually isn’t a lot of dry days to play outside so this was the perfect activity for the girls.
I figured the girls would be hungry after school so I made themed desserts around Ally’s favorite CHARM IT! charms. They were almost too cute to eat!
We rearranged Ally’s loft to set a special table for she and her friends with all the Crayola crayons and colored pencils they’d need to get creative.
And what’s a party without dessert? The donut CHARM IT! charm is Ally’s favorite, so we couldn’t have a play date without pink sprinkle donuts to match her favorite charm!
To eliminate trips up and down the stairs, I set a small table of desserts for the girls to snack on, and provided a vintage beverage cart of rainbow colored sodas in case they got thirsty.
The gumball machine CHARM IT! charm is one of my favorites and also one of the first that Ally acquired. We turned the charm into sugar, AKA gumball machine cake pop truffles and sugar cookies!
To add a special touch on the table, I hooked a new CHARM IT! charm on each girls paper straw. They were thrilled when they discovered their new charms on their straws (and quickly removed them before using the straw to add to their necklace or bracelet).
The girls helped themselves to a few treats and settled in to get creative.
I was so impressed with some of the drawings they came up with. I can’t imagine how CHARM IT! chooses a winner. There are so many cute ideas!
Ally had so much fun having her friends over and I loved having a creative activity for them to do while they played.
